The CRA and the Government of Canada opened direct applications for workers to the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (“CERB”). CERB is a temporary unemployment benefit for employees during the coronavirus pandemic. The Government of Ontario altered its list of essential services, including changes to retail, manufacturing and construction services. Some businesses are permitted to remain open with modifications to service delivery. The Government of Ontario’s list of essential services can be found here.

The Government of Canada released details on its Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (“CEWS”). CEWS is intended to provide eligible employers with a 75% subsidy to cover the first $58,700 of annual salary of workers, up to $847 per week.
