Professional Discipline
Alexa Banister-Thompson is an Associate lawyer who practices in the areas of criminal, professional discipline and regulatory law.
Alexa graduated with Distinction from the University of Toronto where she obtained a double major in Criminology and Ethics, Society and Law. During this time, she attended Oxford University for a summer abroad criminology course.
Alexa completed her Juris Doctor at Queen’s University in 2021. While at Queen’s, she was the Vice President of the Litigation Society and Co-Head of Events for the Cancer Society. Alexa obtained a Certificate in Public International Law from the Bader International Study Centre. She was a student caseworker with the Queen’s Prison Law Clinic (QPLC), where she represented federal inmates at Parole Board Hearings and Disciplinary Court proceedings. In her second year, Alexa received the course prize with QPLC. In her third year, Alexa assisted on a successful constitutional challenge brought by QPLC where s. 163(3) of the Corrections and Conditional Release Regulation was deemed invalid as it violated s. 7 of the Charter.
Alexa began at BT Legal in 2020 as a summer student and returned as an articling student in 2021.
