Alyssa Jagt


Alyssa Jagt is a litigation associate with a focus on employment law, human rights and general commercial litigation. Alyssa has experience in a wide range of commercial and employment disputes, including wrongful competition by departed employees, misuse of confidential information, wrongful dismissal actions and human rights applications. Recently, Alyssa was involved in successfully bringing a Mareva injunction on behalf of a large corporate client against a former employee who engaged in fraud. The Court froze the employee’s assets.

Alyssa has also been successful in having numerous complaints dismissed before the Ministry of Labour. Most notably, on behalf of a global retail client, Alyssa’s results driven approach to advocacy led the Ministry of Labour to uphold the termination of an employee for wilful misconduct.

In addition, Alyssa has represented clients in a variety of matters before the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Alyssa inspires trust in her clients and strategizes with them to help them achieve their goals.  For example, Alyssa has negotiated favourable resolutions at the HRTO and has been involved in successfully having a human rights application dismissed - after a lengthy hearing - on the basis that the employee failed to cooperate in the accommodation process.

Prior to joining Brauti Thorning, Alyssa worked as an associate at Canada’s largest labour and employment law firm.

Alyssa received her Juris Doctor from Queen’s University. While studying law at Queen’s, she worked as a student caseworker at the Queen’s Business Law Clinic, as an editor on the Canadian Labour and Employment Law Journal, and worked as a graduate Research Assistant and Teaching Assistant at the Queen’s Smith School of Business in the areas of Organizational Behaviour and Human Resource Management. Prior to law school, Alyssa obtained her Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the Queen’s Smith School of Business, where she graduated with First Class Honours.

Alyssa matches her passion for the law with solid judgment. The combination of her strong academic background and experience working with corporate clients across a range of industries enable her to provide practical solutions and strategic advice to employers.
